The Village Retirement Community
Residential Social Spaces | School Project
The Concept: The design for The Village Lakehouse Commons in Gainesville, FL will have a lakehouse feel with an emphasis on wood, the outdoors, natural elements, and water features, and will convey a relaxing retreat on the water. The design will be invigorating, intimate, and engaging. It will be invigorating through improvements that will give residents the strength and confidence to navigate the space without extra energy or effort - such as accessible features, suitable flooring, ergonomic seating, and varied colors for wayfinding - and restorative views of nature. It will be intimate through warm colors, soft (but adequate) lighting, cozy niches, and comfortable furnishings. It will be engaging through social, dynamic spaces that integrate sociopetal furnishings, focal points, and inviting activities to create a larger sense of community.
Assisted and Independent Living Research
In addition to the studio project, I also served as the professor's graduate research assistant. One of the tasks within this position was to create a monograph, detailing research that was being conducted at The Village. Below is a sample of this monograph in which I contributed layout design and writing.
